The following galleries are of photos from hill walks we have taken over the past couple of years. Some are part of the National Loop Walks.
This walked started with a stop in Ballingeary to visit an ancient clapper bridge crossing the Lee. The walk takes you up to the ridge above the village of Allihies on Beara and around to the south and back again. You pass through the area once active with copper mines. John Puxley opened the first mine in 1813. The Puxley's had been granted land in the area once belonging to the O'Sullivan Bearas. Henry Puxley, John's grandson, sold the mines to the Berehaven Mining Company in 1868. The new owners continued to run the mines until 1885.
